The doors will open at 8:00 for people to arrive, sign-in, set up forges, say hello and get the first chance at tailgate items. The workshop will start at 9:00 AM.

Things will get underway with introductions and a short meeting lead by Richard Boswell -President.

This year HABA will give participants an option of making a Blacksmith’s knife or a spike knife. Rob Kirby will demonstrate how to make a spike knife and James Porter will demonstrate how to make a blacksmith knife. NOTE: For insurance reasons, only HABA members may forge or help at the forge. HABA membership is a family membership which includes members of the family unit.

The HABA Fund Raising Auction will follow the demonstrations. Please look around your shop and see what you would like to donate to the auction and convert to cash as a tailgater. The auction is a good time to have some fun and take home some deals. The same thing can be said of tailgating.

The Auction

It is our tradition to have our Annual Fund Raising Auction at this meeting and we need you to provide and donate tools and stuff that we want to bid on. During the holidays you might crank up your forge and make something for us. And if Santa brings you a new anvil this will be the place to recycle your old one!

Please take a look around and see what you can donate to this auction.

HABA will have several swage blocks from Saltfork Craftsmen ABA for sale too. Many HABA members already have one of these fine tools. These 65 pound swage blocks are new castings from a good grade of cast iron and are 12-1/4 x 7-1/2 x 3-1/2” thick.

This being HABA’s annual fund raising auction you can bet there will be some pretty nice pieces on the auction block. Several pieces made by demonstrators at this years programs will be on the auction block. Below is the Damascus Hunter made by Mitch Wilkins in May, and the Tong Making Steps by Bill Epps last February.

There will also be an assortment of work donated to HABA by members which are always big sellers. With a little luck there may be a few ceramic ‘Mug-Kits’. HABA ordered a few ceramic ‘Mug-Kits’ mugs from a local potter. The idea is for smiths to forge the handles. If this idea catches-on it may be possible to order mugs with the HABA logo and even the smith’s mark.

Tailgating

As mentioned above, this is also a great opportunity to do some tailgating. If you have an anvil or vise, or any other smithing tools or materials you no longer need, throw it in the truck and put a price tag on it. This event does draw buyers.
