The same thing can be said of tailgating. When & Where : Saturday, January 15 : The schedule looks like this:
Where : Components Etc. 8866 North Loop East Houston, TX 77029 For those of you who are interested in learning more about knifemaking, more information may be found at these sites :
The Auction It is our tradition to have our Annual Fund Raising Auction at this meeting and we need you to provide and donate tools and stuff that we want to bid on. During the holidays you might crank up your forge and make something for us. And if Santa brings you a new anvil this will be the place to recycle your old one! Please take a look around and see what you can donate to this auction. ![]() HABA will have several swage blocks from Saltfork Craftsmen ABA for sale too. Many HABA members already have one of these fine tools. These 65 pound swage blocks are new castings from a good grade of cast iron and are 12-1/4 x 7-1/2 x 3-1/2” thick. This being HABA’s annual fund raising auction you can bet there will be some pretty nice pieces on the auction block. Several pieces made by demonstrators at this years programs will be on the auction block. Below is the Damascus Hunter made by Mitch Wilkins in May, and the Tong Making Steps by Bill Epps last February.
There will also be an assortment of work donated to HABA by members which are always big sellers. With a little luck there may be a few ceramic ‘Mug-Kits’. HABA ordered a few ceramic ‘Mug-Kits’ mugs from a local potter. The idea is for smiths to forge the handles. If this idea catches-on it may be possible to order mugs with the HABA logo and even the smith’s mark. Tailgating As mentioned above, this is also a great opportunity to do some tailgating. If you have an anvil or vise, or any other smithing tools or materials you no longer need, throw it in the truck and put a price tag on it. This event does draw buyers. What to Bring Bring safety glasses with side shields. This is a requirement! Bring your forge and tools if you have them. This workshop will not require one though. Bring a chair to sit in. Gloves and hearing protection are highly recommended. HABA will provide water, soda, spikes and have a limited amount of coil spring available. Do not forget about lunch. Pack a lunch or decide to have lunch at one of the many restaurants in the immediate area. NOTE: Membership renewal begins January 1, 2005. The membership dues are still $20.00. You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings! Bring a Guest! Bring your Membership Dues if you want to work at a forge and are not a current Member ! Minors are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
