Joinery Workshop Hammer-In

with

Dave Koenig, Tee Hines, Les Cook

at Armand Bayou
in Pasadena

There are a lot of different types of joinery. Forge welding, rivets, collars, mortise & tenon, pierced joinery and hot wrapping to name a few.

This month HABA is headed to Armand Bayou (a Non-Profit Organization) for a hands on ‘Hammer- In’. Dave Koenig, Tee Hines and Les Cook will demonstrate a few of the many different types of structural and decorative “Joinery”. We were last there for a work day in September of 2006 , and we return this time for a regular hammer-in style meeting.

Mortise & Tenon Dave Koenig is going to demonstrate securing a mortise & tenon with ‘Wedge’ joinery. This type of joinery is very useful when forging pieces you want to disassemble in the future or it can be used purely to enhance the decorative characteristics of a piece.

rivet Tee Hines is going to demonstrate making rivets. He will show you several methods of making rivets and the various tools associated with the process. As many other methods of joinery, rivets are used both structural and decorative. In the picture rivets are used as decoration and to join elements.

collar

Les Cook is going to demonstrate banding (collaring). Collars are frequently used in ornamental ironwork to join elements. They can be used structurally, to cover welds or just to add decoration. The picture shows a decorative collar used to cover where seven elements were welded for strength.
